January 25, 2025
Bona Law is proud to announce that partner and Chief Operating Officer Aaron Gott has been nominated for the 2025 Concurrences Antitrust Writing Awards for his article, Antitrust for Kids: Anatomy of a Chocolate Cartel (an Antitrust Review of the Movie Wonka), which we first published on The Antitrust Attorney Blog.
In Anatomy of a Chocolate Cartel, Aaron Gott offers a unique antitrust analysis of the movie Wonka. He delves into the fictional chocolate cartel depicted in the film, using it as a case study to explain fundamental antitrust principles. Aaron breaks down the movie's plot to illustrate how cartels operate, the economic impact of anti-competitive behavior, and the legal frameworks designed to combat such practices. This engaging approach not only educates readers about antitrust law but also demonstrates how popular culture can be used to simplify and communicate complex legal issues.
About the Concurrences Antitrust Writing Awards
The Concurrences Antitrust Writing Awards celebrate excellence in antitrust scholarship and practice. Organized by Concurrences, a leading publisher in competition law, these awards aim to promote thought leadership and innovative ideas in antitrust law. The awards are divided into several categories, including academic articles, business articles, and student papers. Each category is judged by a panel of experts from academia, law firms, and regulatory agencies.
Aaron's article is nominated in the business category, which recognizes outstanding short articles published in professional publications. This category includes non-peer-reviewed journals, briefs, memoranda, and blog posts, highlighting practical and original contributions to antitrust law from a business perspective. Within this category, Aaron's article falls under the "Concerted Practices" subcategory, which focuses on collaborative actions among competitors that may restrict competition.
The selection process for the Concurrences Antitrust Writing Awards is rigorous and thorough. The Editorial Committee first selects a pool of all antitrust writings accepted for nomination. The Steering Committees then shortlist the best academic and business articles. Finally, the Board, composed of leading enforcers and academics, selects the award-winning articles. The winners will be announced at the annual awards ceremony, which will take place in Washington, D.C., on April 1, 2025.
