Bona Law Gains Another Former Senior Antitrust Enforcer
November 8, 2023
Stepping down from his run as a senior Deputy Attorney General for the State of California, Paul Moore has joined Bona Law, adding to the firm his extensive enforcement experience as a former federal prosecutor at the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice and the California Department of Justice.
While at the California AG’s Office, Paul successfully led numerous high-profile investigations and legal actions including California v Vitol, et al., and the attempted merger of Valero/Plains All American, and he was lead attorney for California in Federal Trade Commission v. DraftKings, et al. In addition to countless investigations and litigations, Paul also regularly served as the California AG’s primary liaison to other states’ attorneys general, state agencies, as well as federal enforcement agencies. Paul is a recipient of the Attorney General’s Award for Team Excellence.
At the U.S. Department of Justice, Paul litigated merger-to-monopoly cases; investigated high-value mergers; and collaborated with enforcers nationwide and abroad in joint conduct investigations and decree enforcement.
Once he left the California Department of Justice in July 2023, Paul chose Bona Law as his next career step after a family move to Argentina where his wife is originally from. Paul said, “Having worked with the Bona team as Deputy Attorney General on a complex price-fixing matter, I already knew Bona Law has one of the best antitrust practices in the country. I also was attracted to the firm’s culture and flexibility when it comes to family and other commitments beyond the firm. This aligns perfectly with my own belief that clients are served best by happy lawyers.”
Jarod Bona, CEO of Bona Law, said, “We’re thrilled that Paul has chosen us. Paul is an outstanding lawyer and person with an impressive background in all types of antitrust enforcement. He’ll be an invaluable asset to our clients who increasingly require complex advice informed by diverse legal views and experiences, including state and federal government enforcement service.”
Paul is a graduate of the University of Virginia Law School of Law and holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and foreign affairs from Georgetown University and a master’s degree in conflict analysis and resolution from George Mason University.
